I have been teaching pilates for over 13 years, I became an instructor following a back injury, and was impressed at how much pilates improved my condition.  I couldn't believe what I perceived as 'just lying on the floor  doing a few simple  exercises' would make such a difference! It's a lot more challenging than it looks.  I felt so much better afterwards and in a masochistic way, very relaxed!!
