I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be instructing a class from my living room! Unfortunately due to Covid 19, this is a completely unavoidable situation, but you have to make the best of things.
Pros
Takes me 5 minutes to set up my laptop, change into my fitness gear and put my mat down. Longest walk is from the kitchen into the living room with my necessary glass of water!
Not having to set up the mats for my own classes in my own particular colour co-ordinated way!
It's really nice that I have loyal customers who are seeing me though this pandemic, and the loss of pay due to classes being cancelled.
At least I am still laughing as much as in the physical classes, just didn't realise how much I laughed (see comment just below).
All the classes are recorded, so I can have a look at them after the class (and laugh).
Cons
Technology. You just never know if its going to work until you try it! Touch wood, I haven't had any issues, but at the start, people were struggling to log on, their internet connection wasn't the best. I had a few phone calls and texts at the start of the class regarding this. I should have taped at the start YOU NEED TO SWITCH YOUR MIKE AND VIDEO ON!!
Talking on Zoom. Wow - didn't realise how broad my accent was. Not going to change it though. I've also noticed no-one else likes to speak as EVERYONE can hear what they are saying.
Screens jumping about - the minute a fly lands in someone's living room (or wherever they are doing the class), the screen jumps to them, not me, them! and the screens move about with each noise, so someone I thought was initially in the top left corner has moved 5 spaces along on the screen.
Does my sense of humour transfer well??? not sure because HARDLY ANYONE SPEAKS!! Luckily when I've looked over the video after the session, I do see quite a few shy smiles.
Hair. If I'm having a bad hair day, roots and everything - everyone can certainly see it, there's no escape!
Obviously the biggest issue is not seeing the people in my classes and having a bit chat to them all, and 'helping' them when l feel they can manage just that little more!
